Session 1: Understanding Anti-Black Racism

In this workshop, participants will learn about the principles of anti-oppression with the goal of developing skills to foster a more inclusive community for staff and community partners. Participants will develop a shared understanding of key issues related to equity, diversity, and inclusion with a focus on racism and discrimination. Participants will gain strategies to become aware of and disrupt biases that prevent inclusion.
Sheliza Jamal is the founder of Curated Leadership, a coaching firm that fosters partnerships with leadership teams, nonprofits, and corporations to develop their knowledge in the areas of equity and diversity to build inclusive communities. Sheliza is a graduate of the Harvard Graduate School of Education and is currently completing her PhD at OISE, University of Toronto in the Department of Social Justice Education.
